For a startup to succeed, its brand must be more than just an attractive logo or catchy slogan. Rather, it should convey the company’s values and help differentiate itself in the marketplace.
It’s not enough to have a good idea; if you want to succeed in today’s saturated market, you need to create your own monopoly.
How do you do that?
Let’s take the biggest company and break it down:
Apple competes in the technology space with cheaper, smarter pieces of tech. So how is it that Apple still commands (and dictates) where the market will go? Because of its monopoly on Apple Products.
A good brand can make a drink taste better, a gadget work smarter, and even make you run faster.
If people don’t believe in what you stand for then they won’t buy from you no matter how amazing your product might be.
So how can you create a brand that will connect with your intended audience?

Here are three ways to make sure your brand is as competitive in the market as Apple:
- Have an opinion — This is also called voice. It’s the unique perspective of your company. This is your secret — secret sauce.
- Have a story — It doesn’t have to be ‘unique’ as what most branding gurus say. It just has to be yours. What made you build your solution? Why should we care about your business?
- Have a purpose — This is your story but think bigger. Why do you exist? Is it to provide a need? Is it to solve a problem?
